James Richard Williams, 83, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, at his residence.

He was born April 23, 1940, in Terre Haute, the son of Earl and Lois (Hill) Williams.

He was a graduate of Reelsville High School in the class of 1958.

Jim was a lifelong farmer and a 50-year breeder of Angus cattle. He worked as a meat cutter for Kroger for 22 years and previously worked at Marsh Supermarket and Gardner’s Market. He also owned The Butcher’s Block.

He was a member of the American Angus Association and a past president and member of the Jaycees, helping to build Jaycee Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, William and Larry Williams.

Jim is survived by his wife, Maxine (Herriott) Williams; sons Gerald “Gary” L. (Stacy) Williams and Brian P. (Kristine) Williams; a brother, Joseph (Linda) Williams; and four grandchildren, Alexis, Elijah, Parker and Rachel.

A memorial friends-and-family gathering will be held at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 653 S. CR 100 East, Greencastle, on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The family will have private graveside services at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery with Rev. Wes Kendall presiding.

Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
