A staple of Greenastle industry for more than 100 years was recently honored by Gov. Eric Holcomb.

On Aug. 9, Tim Menke, Buzzi Unicem Greencastle plant manager, along with three of his employees, Jeff Snider, Kevin Hull and Bryant Keck, who each have more than 40 years of service at Buzzi, attended the governor’s Century or Half Century Business Award Ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Buzzi, a cement manufacturing plant in Greencastle long known as Lone Star Industries, has been in continuous operation for 103 years as of 2023.

More than 1,200 Indiana companies have been recognized during the award’s 32-year history.

This year’s ceremony included Buzzi Unicem as recipient from 2020, as awards for the previous three years were initially granted but a ceremony was delayed due to the pandemic.

The Indiana Century or Half Century Business Award honors Hoosier businesses that have remained in operation for a minimum of 100 or 50 consecutive years and have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

“It is an amazing achievement to be recognized for strong dedication to our employees and the community,” the company said in a release. “Buzzi Unicem exemplifies the pioneering spirit and perseverance that will keep the organization on the path to success for centuries to come.

“What an honor to celebrate Buzzi Unicem’s longevity in Putnam County and reaching this incredible milestone, resilience and contributions to Indiana’s economy and the community.”
