Civil War Days event set Aug. 26-27 at Bridgeton

BRIDGETON ­— Area residents can join the Parke County community of Bridgeton for a trip back in time to the days of the Civil War this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26-27.

Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.

Visitors can walk through the authentic Union and Confederate camps and talk with the soldiers. The 49th Indiana Company F will have drills Saturday and Sunday mornings and will skirmish with the 44th Tennessee Company K early in the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday. They can also meet Abraham Lincoln as he tours the camp both days.

Visitors can also see pioneer demonstrations and learn about Indiana history at the 1822 Case Log Cabin and visit the 1878 House, the Liberty Tree Shop and Old Barn New for crafts and antiques. Bill Robison will also be on the cabin porch with live period dulcimer music.

Lunch can be had at Collom’s General Store or at the Bridgeton Mill with its fresh-baked bread and organic stone-ground products. Live demonstrations will show how grain was milled.

No admission is charged for any of the events and plenty of free parking is available.
