Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent crashes.

• At 7:19 p.m. on Saturday, Cesar J. Vazquez Sosa, 43, Laredo, Texas, was eastbound in the left lane of Interstate 70 near the 42-mile marker. Jeri Marcum-Knight, 56, Gosport, was eastbound in the right lane in a 2017 Chevrolet Impala.

Both drivers told Deputy Todd Hopkins that the other swerved into his or her lane, causing a sideswipe crash.

However, two witnesses in a repair van said they were behind the incident said that the semi, driven by Vazquez Sosa, swerved into the right lane, striking Marcum-Knight’s vehicle.

Marcum-Knight complained of back pain but was checked out by medics and release. Her car had to be towed.

Hopkins estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 10:51 a.m. on Saturday, Jane E. Ernst, 94, Cloverdale, was northbound on Lafayette Street in Cloverdale in a 2019 Cadillac XT5. Lisa J. Fields, 62, Cloverdale, was eastbound on Robert Weist Avenue in a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox.

The intersection is a four-way stop. However, Fields said she stopped at the stop sign and noticed Ernst approaching the stop sign, so she proceeded through the intersection. Ernst continued into the intersection, striking Fields’ vehicle.

Ernst told Sgt. Brian Helmer she did not see the other vehicle and proceeded into the intersection.

Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
