Fresh off the momentum of Greencastle Music Fest this past weekend, a busy Labor Day weekend should bring folks back to downtown Greencastle on Friday and Saturday.

The September First Friday event on Friday, Sept. 1 will feature local bluesman Tad Robinson and his band with their soul-blues beginning at 7 p.m. on the Courthouse Stage.

Meanwhile, Cloverdale native Mona Skirvin will lead Mona & the Hitchhikers on the Moore’s Bar stage on South Indiana Street, also at 7 p.m.

First Friday runs from 6-11 p.m. Friday on Franklin and Indiana streets.

The music will just be the tip of the iceberg for the weekend, though, as in addition to the music, food, drinks and other festivities, Friday and Saturday will feature art-based activities spearheaded by two different organizations.

Putnam County Comprehensive Services is partnering with both Main Street Greencastle and the Putnam County Chamber to conduct its fifth-annual Green Light Art Festival on Friday evening during First Friday and on Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in conjunction with the Greencastle Farmers’ Market.

Green Light Art Festival is hosted by the Putnam County Comprehensive Services art program, Green Light Studios. The art festival was born from the goal to have artists with disabilities creating, showing and selling their art side-by-side with artists without disabilities.

Meanwhile, installation of the bicentennial mural at Dick’s Barber Shop will be well under way by Friday.

On Friday, the Putnam County Mural Festival will offer a historic downtown walking tour beginning at 6 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Australian muralist Damian Mitchell will conduct an intro to spray painting workshop at 12 W. Washington St.
