PIC OF THE DAY: What Will It Be?

Wednesday, August 30, 2023
As artist Damien Mitchell takes a break from his work to chat with local videographer/photographer Joel Bottom late Wednesday morning, the west wall of Dick’s Barber Shop nontheless begins to reveals its secrets as the Greencastle bicentennial mural takes shape. The forms include a streamlined train engine, a pair of still-unknown faces, some prominent local buildings and a covered bridge. At the southernmost end of the wall, a human form appears to be holding up a chemist’s Erlenmeyer flasks. What, specifically, do you see taking shape on the wall?

Response by Jared Jernagan, Editor, Greencastle Banner-Graphic:
Having seen it up close, I’m pretty sure the “arch” is more of a framing device than it is any sort of the subject of the mural.
  • Maybe one of the arches leading to campus? I would love it if it were a rainbow; the Facebook Chatter pages would explode.
