County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Friday

• At 6:02 a.m. Loren C. Lewis, 56, Henderson, Ky., was lodged at the jail on a court order

• At 5:44 a.m. Dennis L. Kent, 46, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 9:21 p.m. Michael T. Vanevery, 43, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.

• At 6:12 p.m. Robert E. Freeman, 64, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 1:41 Dante T. Hodgkin, 30, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five incidents between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning:

• At 11:57 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:01 p.m. and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:10 p.m.

• At 8:14 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Chiyoda for a gas smell. Firefighters arrived at 8:18 and did not detect gas after monitoring the facility. It was determined that the smell was possibly sewer gas from a vent pipe. GFD went back into service at 8:32 a.m.

• At 12:33 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Kissinger House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:38 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:43 a.m.

• At 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was requested by Greencastle police for assistance at Indian Springs Apartments with a person who locked themselves out of a second-floor apartment. Firefighters arrived at 1:51 and used a ladder to gain access to the apartment through a window and unlocked it. GFD went back into service at 2:10 a.m.

• At 7:53 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Don Julio after the restaurant’s automatic fire suppression system activated. Firefighters arrived at 7:58 and determined the activation was due to construction. The owner and the health department were notified of the set-off, and GFD went back into service at 8:27 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 10 medical assists and had two disregards in this timeframe.
