Greencastle man arrested in Carmel for Alabama murder
CARMEL — Alabama authorities arrested a Greencastle man for murder late last month.
The Huntsville Police Department announced Aug. 31 that it had charged Damon Andrew Blinks, 28, of Greencastle, with capital murder for the robbery and deadly shooting that happened on Monday, Aug. 28.
HPD officers responded to the area the following morning for an unresponsive subject laying in the parking lot and identified him as Devin Tyler McDonald, 23. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carmel Police took Blinks into custody on Aug. 30 with McDonald’s vehicle in his possession.
HPD Major Crimes Unit Investigators traveled to Indiana on Aug. 31, to speak with Blinks about the incident, and he was formally charged with capital murder.
Blinks is facing additional charges in Hamilton County of Level 4 felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement using a vehicle and Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.
Blinks has no obvious links to Greencastle aside from his listed address in news releases from the Huntsville Police Department. However, his Hamilton County charges list an Indianapolis address.
It is possible that Blinks had a listed address of Putnamville Correctional Facility, a Greencastle address, as he has an extensive record in Indiana, including time spent with the Indiana Department of Correction for crimes such as carjacking, theft/receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting law enforcement, escape and identity deception out of Marion, Hendricks and Madison counties.
