LETTER: Shred event protects privacy, removes waste

Monday, September 11, 2023

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Putnam County Board of Realtors, I would like to thank everyone that participated in our Community Shred Event on Saturday, Sept. 9. The event was sponsored by Earl & Co. CPA and North Salem State Bank, enabling us to provide this secure shredding service free to the community.

According to Pro Shred, we shredded 24 bins, 96 gallons each, of paper, all of which will be recycled, along with a full truckload of cardboard that was taken locally for recycling after the event.

Many participants chose to make a donation to the Putnam County Board of Realtors Scholarship fund, which allows us to grow our endowment with the Putnam County Community Foundation. Through our endowment we recently awarded $5,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors.

Thank you to everyone that participated and to those members that volunteered – Gina Carter, Samantha Cooper, My Gilley, Jason Hartman, Elizabeth Kienzynski, Joe Lenihan, Traci McKinney, Chris Skillern and Lezley Wass.

We would also like to thank the Putnam County 4-H Fair Board for allowing us to set up on the fairgrounds drive, giving us plenty of room to keep everyone safe and keep the paper dry.
