Fillmore VFD chicken barbecue this weekend

FILLMORE — The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 63rd-annual Fireman’s Chicken Barbecue this Friday and Saturday.

Serving will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday. No debit or credit cards will be accepted.

Bluegrass and county music will be played both days, while the Bloodmobile will be available on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Meanwhile, the annual parade will get under way at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Along with mystery prizes, raffle prizes for $1 a ticket will include a 4,000-watt ECHO generator for first place, a wishing well for second place and a Worx mini chainsaw for third place.

Fillmore Fire, which provides mutual aid in Putnam and Hendricks counties, held its first barbecue in 1959. The event is its primary fundraising effort.
