Newby to make second regional trip from Northview Girls' Golf Sectional

BRAZIL – South Putnam senior Alie Newby extended her season an additional week after qualifying for the Washington Regional from the IHSAA Girls’ Golf Northview Sectional Friday afternoon.

Newby shot 93, the lowest individual score from a non-qualifying team, to lead the Eagles to a sixth-place finish on the day with a score of 454.

Cloverdale finished ninth overall on 463 while Greencastle fielded an incomplete team. Terre Haute South won the sectional by 78 strokes over Terre Haute North with a score of 312.

The Braves also snagged the five lowest individual scores as part of a dominant day on the course at Forest Park GC with Avery Cassell taking medalist honors with a round of 77.

Joining the Terre Haute pair at the regional is Parke Heritage, which shot 402, with hosts Northview shooting 416 to finish fourth. Monrovia shot 440 to place fifth with South Vermillion three strokes back of South Putnam on 457, West Vigo eighth on 459 and Clay City finishing 10th on 467.

Advancing alongside Newby as individual qualifiers were Bulldog Avery Wolfe on 99 and Wildcat Jordan Smith on 102.

Mackenzie Lovett shot 106 for the Eagles with Faith Wiggins carding a 122 and Kloee Pastore coming on 132 to round out the team scoring. Bella Fanning shot 141 for the fifth score.

Autumn Wheeler paced Cloverdale with a round of 109, followed by Aliyah Maldonado on 116, Celeste Terrell on 117 and Gracie Haga on 121 with Payton Watkins the fifth score on 131.

Emma Callahan was two shots off the third advancing individual spot, turning in a round of 104 for Greencastle while Hannah McLaughlin shot 120 and Grace Long carded a 125.

Newby will play at Country Oaks GC next Saturday with the regional beginning at 8:30 a.m.
