Student demographics coming for Area 30

Monday, September 18, 2023

Part of a meeting that took 10 minutes, Area 30 Career Center’s interlocal board heard a brief update last week about tracking enrollment.

Asst. Director Sharon Bone spoke on fall student data that will be collected for reporting to the state. More specifically, this data covers demographics as to enrollment in different courses.

The information is logged through a software called InTERS, which is used to collect data from career and technical education at the federal level. This pertains to receiving federal and state funds from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

With a student count date set on Oct. 2, Bone and counselors from each of Area 30’s sending schools met last Wednesday to go over the software. Corporation-specific reports are to be reviewed before approvals in November.

“Counselors love this time of year, we all do,” Bone humored lightly about the yearly process.

In other business:

• The board approved for Area 30 to go on an E-learning day on April 8 due to the anticipated solar eclipse. Executive Director Chad Nunley said the change was because of not having any built-in off days.

• Nunley reported that Area 30 received a $30,000 Secured School Safety Grant, which will go toward upgrades to its public address system, new signage and two new AEDs.

• Nunley informed that three staff members, including himself, will attend the Indiana Association for Career and Technical Education’s state conference in Indianapolis on Sept. 22.

The entire board and Treasurer Cindy Burnham joined Bone and Nunley for the meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Area 30 Board is set for Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. in the Old National Trail conference room.
