Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent crashes.

• At 9:18 p.m. on Saturday, Paul Hagen, 64, Fenton, Mo., was westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2017 GMC Sierra pulling a trailer with a car on it.

Hagen told Deputy Todd Hopkins his trailer began to sway, causing him to lose control and collide with the concrete support of an overpass. The truck and trailer jackknifed and spun around, coming to rest facing eastbound with the trailer still partly in the travel lane.

A passing semi attempted to avoid the trailer, but collided with it and ran off the road, overturning in the ditch. The Indiana State Police investigated this accident, and no report was provided.

Hagen said he was not injured, and declined medical attention.

The truck and trailer were towed. Hopkins estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Ronald R. Fleming, 82, Indianapolis, was eastbound on State Road 236 just east of U.S. 231 in a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica when he hit a deer.

Deputy Levi Martin estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6:21 p.m. on Friday, Brayden Morse, 19, Brazil, was westbound on Range Line Road in a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. Brand Selvia, 28, Greencastle, was also westbound in a 2014 Volkswagen Beetle.

Morse told deputy David Bennett that he was attempting to turn into a driveway when his car was rear-ended by Selvia’s, pushing it into a guardrail.

Selvia told the deputy he did not see Morse’s vehicle turning until it was too late, causing him to hit it.

Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage, Selvia’s to the front end and Morse’s to both the front and rear.

Bennett, assisted by Deputy Martin, estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:52 p.m. on Thursday, Brandy A. Owen, 41, Colorado Springs, Colo., was westbound on State Road 236 east of Barnard in a 2014 Ford Explorer when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Reserve Commander Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.
