County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 6:48 p.m. Kevin L. Johnson, 53, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a pair of local warrants.

• At 5:15 a.m. Eduardo Andre Jr., 21, Eagle Pass, Texas, was booked in for driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

• At 1:24 a.m. Thomas E. Colantonio, 59, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving with an ACE of .08 or more.

• At 1:06 a.m. Luke A. Mitchell, 25, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

Saturday

• At 7:20 p.m. Melissa A. Welch, 53, Coatesville, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:32 a.m. Colby F. Strasburger, 53, Russellville, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery and intimidation.

• At 1:47 a.m. Cooper R. Strasburger, 23, Russellville, was taken into custody for domestic battery.

Friday

• At 9:24 a.m. Kevin D. Greene, 52, Fishers, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 2:35 p.m. Angela K. Huff, 45, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a pair of local warrants.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Haley D. Alexander, 31, Indianapolis, was arrested by Sgt. Nick Eastham.

Taken into custody at Jacob and Indiana streets, Alexander was booked into the Putnam County Jail on a Marion County warrant carrying the original charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

• At 2:26 p.m. Thursday, Brittney A. Thacker, 38, Terre Haute, was arrested by Reserve Officer Jensen Clement.

Taken into custody at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway, Thacker was booked into the jail on a Putnam County warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

One recent traffic citation was issued by city officers:

• At 10:29 a.m. Friday, James Stewart, 23, Coatesville, was ticketed for speeding by Sgt. Eastham.

Stopped in the 900 block of East Washington Street, Stewart was cited for speeding in a school zone after being clocked at 49 mph in a 20-mph zone.

Sheriff’s Office

A Putnam County sheriff’s deputy investigated the following recent crash.

• At 2:44 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, Danielle Walters, 33, Fillmore, was northbound on County Road 725 East in a 2017 Kia Sedona.

Walters told Deputy Tanner Brown she met another car and got as far over as she could, but in doing so she hit a culvert, damaging her vehicle.

The car was towed. Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven incidents between Friday evening and Sunday evening:

• At 8:38 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 105 W. Poplar St. for an unauthorized burn. Firefighters arrived at 8:43 and found the resident tending to a fire. The homeowner was advised of the city burn ordinance, but the fire was approved. GFD went back into service at 8:54 p.m.

• At 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for an individual locked out of their apartment. Firefighters arrived at 10:23 and unlocked the apartment with the master key. GFD went back into service at 10:35 a.m.

• At 2:02 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Chinda House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:06 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:08 p.m.

• At 8:26 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to a DePauw-owned duplex at 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:29 and determined the alarm was due to hygiene products. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:32 p.m.

• At 12:57 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Reese Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1 a.m. and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The building was ventilated and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:27 a.m.

• At 4:38 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw-owned duplex at 105 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:39 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The detector head was cleaned and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:47 p.m.

• At 8:12 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Minshall House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:13 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:20 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 14 medical assists and had two disregards in this timeframe.
