In volleyball, a diversified attack is always desired.

The Greencastle Tiger Cubs had five different hitters with at least five kills and seven hitters with kills in all as it rolled past the Owen Valley Patriots in straight-sets 25-12,25-18, 25-12 in WIC action Tuesday night at the McAnally Center.

Kylee Owens was going early for Greencastle with three early kills. Lindy Watson also had a couple of kills as the Cubs inched out in front in the opening set.

The Tiger Cubs then went on a big run, taking 14 of the last 17 points as kills from Makenzie Creviston, Allie and Maddie Landry and Owens sparked the outburst as Greencastle went on for the 25-12 win.

The second set was not as easy for the Cubs as the Patriots battled behind the hitting of Makala Gomes. With the set tied at 12-12, middle blocker Madi Plew had back-to-back stuff blocks that pushed the Cubs back out in front.

Plew added another block and kill as Greencastle was back in business. Creviston and Watson helped finish off Owen Valley for a 25-18 win.

Greencastle would waste little time in the third set, sprinting out to an 18-4 lead, scoring 11 in a row at one point.

Plew had four kills in the stretch and Ellie Knuth added a pair of aces to put the Patriots in a hole they could not get out of.

Totally dominating the last set, Allie Landry finished things off with a pair of aces to complete the three-set sweep.

“Lots of good things. Madi Plew had a phenomenal game. Lindy Watson comes in and makes some things happen. Ellie Knuth and Meilani York were doing great behind the service line,” said coach Denise Meyer.

Creviston led the way with 10 kills, Plew added nine and Kylee Owens finished with seven in an offensive explosion with 42 team kills on the night.

Knuth finished with four service aces kept the Patriots reeling on serve receive. Plew added four blocks on defense with a lot of touches to go along with them.\

Win No. 15 on the season for the Cubs and a 6-3 mark in WIC play sets up a big match up for positioning in the conference with Indian Creek at home on Thursday

Coach Meyer added, “We faced Indian Creek in the championship of their tournament earlier in the year. We didn’t play our best in that game, so we are excited to see them in our gym.”
