Miller wins WIC Boys’ XC Meet; Eagles, Cougars top county efforts

NASHVILLE – Greencastle sophomore Landon Miller made a statement Saturday after winning the WIC Boys’ Cross Country Meet in a time of 15:47.

Miller beat out Edgewood’s Zane Meyer by eight seconds at the Eagle Park Athletic Complex in Nashville a week ahead of the IHSAA Cross Country State Tournament with the Tiger Cubs finishing fifth on the day on 141 points.

The Mustangs beat out Northview and Indian Creek for the top spot 50=58-63.

South Putnam led the county boys’ teams in fourth, finishing on 118 points with North Putnam sixth on 152 points. Cloverdale was incomplete with only four runners.

Charlie Menzel (17:08) joined Miller in the All-WIC places by finishing 11th with North Putnam’s Jeremiah Miles (16:56) finishing seventh and South Putnam duo Keaton Chew (17:06) finishing ninth and Gabe Feltner (17:12) finishing 13th to also earn conference honors.

Evan Hinkle (18:09) finished 26th with Landon Chew (18:29) finishing 35th and Noach Couch (18:50) rounding out the top-five spots for the Eagles in 40th place.

Caleb Edwards (19:32) finished 47th for Greencastle, followed by Josh Rumple (19:37) in 49th place and Daniel Dinn (19:44) in 52nd place.

Elijah Harless (18:02) finished 25th overall for North Putnam with Thomas Nelson (18:29) in 36th place, Edrien Sobrino (19:32) in 48th place and Corbin Conner (19:43) in 51st place to round out the scoring for the Cougars.

Cloverdale was led by Evan Barnee (20:30) in 60th place, followed in by Mason Paauwe (21:46), Spencer Nees (22:52) and Joseph Patton (24:10).

Greencastle’s Colleen Bossnack (20:37) and South Putnam’s Elise Kendall (21:21) both earned All-WIC honors in the girls’ meet, Bossnack finishing ninth overall and Kendall 14th overall.

North Putnam beat out South Putnam for seventh place in the team standings 177-183. Greencastle and Cloverdale were incomplete teams.

Edgewood won the girls’ title 32-47 over second-place Northview with Indian Creek third. Brave sophomore Libby Dowty (17:25) crushed the field, winning by almost 90 seconds over second-place Hannah Crain of Edgewood.

Jacy Huffman (22:17) led the Cougars with an 18th-place finish, followed by Maddie Trent (23:10) and Brooke Hensley (23:49) in 30th and 33rd place respectively. Erica Zatorski (27:20) finished 60th overall and Hayden Fowler (29:57) rounded out the team scoring in 63rd place.

Stevie Keenan (22:21) finished in 19th place for the Eagles with Caroline Hodge (27:11) finishing in 57th place, Joslyn Bumgardner (28:47) crossing in 62nd place and Molly Trammell (30:33) finishing in 64th place.

Meredith Ball (26:25) finished 53rd overall for the Tiger Cubs while Olivia Hemmerling (22:59) finished 25th overall for Cloverdale.
