Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Gretchen C. Carr, 19, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 700 South in a 2004 GMC Envoy when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Josh Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:16 p.m. on Wednesday, Lee S. Ellingwood, 31, Crawfordsville, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching County Road 500 North in a 1997 Ford LT9513 dump truck when the right front tire blew.

This caused Ellingwood to lose control and leave the right side of the road, hitting the ditch and entering a cornfield.

The truck traveled approximately 800 feet after leaving the road.

Deputy Clark estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The truck was towed.

• At 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Michael W. Hunley, 56, Ladoga, was southbound on U.S. 231 waiting to turn left onto State Road 36 in a 1998 Ford AT513 dump truck. Aaron France, 32, Frankfort, was stopped behind Hunley in a 2013 Nissan Rogue. John A. Mullens, 55, Greencastle, was southbound in a 2011 Honda Ridgeline.

Mullens told Deputy Josh Boller that he was southbound when he noticed France “slam on his brakes” and rear-ended the other vehicle, causing heavy rear-end damage to France’s vehicle and forcing it to go sideways into the dump truck.

However, both France and Hunley told Boller they were stationary in traffic when the crash occurred.

The vehicles driven by Mullens and France were both towed. Boller estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.
