Miller breezes to THN Cross Country Sectional title

Greencastle's Landon Miller won the Terre Haute North Boys' Cross Country Sectional in dominant fashion, crossing the line in 16:01, 34 seconds ahead of second place Jcim Grant of Northview. The Tiger Cubs finished sixth overall in the team standings while South Putnam finished third to advance to the Brownsburg Regional.

SEELYVILLE – Greencastle sophomore Landon Miller made a statement run on a course he could return to in two weeks’ time, winning the IHSAA Terre Haute North Boys’ Cross Country Sectional by 34 seconds Saturday morning.

Miller crossed the line in 16:01 with Northview’s Jcim Grant in 16:35, beating out Terre Haute South’s Ethan Aidoo in 16:36 for second place.

Keaton Chew (17:23) finished ninth and Gabe Feltner (17:34) finished 11th overall for South Putnam, helping to lead the Eagles to a third-place finish (126) in the team standings and advancement to the Brownsburg Regional.

Terre Haute South (38) edged out Northview (42) for the team title with Clay City (135) ahead of Terre Haute North (141) for the final two team advancement spots to the regional round.

The Tiger Cubs finished sixth overall (181) in the team standings though Charlie Menzel (17:52) finished 15th overall while Caleb Edwards (19:34) finished 43rd overall, both claiming one of the 15 individual advancement slots to join Miller at the regional. Daniel Dinn (20:16) and Isaac Hertenstein (22:26) finished out the scoring for the Greencastle.

Backing Chew and Feltner were Evan Hinkle (18:19) finishing 21st overall, Landon Chew (18:47) finishing 28th overall and Isaac Boyce (21:14.2) pipping Emilio Gallegos (21:14.6) for the final scoring spot; Gunner Roach (21:56) finalized the run for the Eagles.

Cloverdale’s Mason Pauwee (21:36.0) and Evan Barnett (21:36.7) led the team in 67th and 68th place respectively with Spencer Nees (22:55) and Joseph Patton (26:09) finishing the season for the Clovers.

In the IHSAA Terre Haute North Girls’ Cross Country Sectional, Greencastle’s Colleen Bossnack (21:04) finished third overall to advance to the Brownsburg Regional.

Three other Putnam County runners advanced to the regional in South Putnam’s Elise Kendall (21:56), finishing ninth overall, and Stevie Keenan (22:07), who finished 15th overall, along with Cloverdale’s Olivia Hemmerling (23:22), who finished 29th overall.

Northview (25) ran away with the team title as Ella Hayes (19:28.0) edged out teammate Gnister Grant (19:28.2) for the individual sectional title. Terre Haute South (58), Terre Haute North (77), West Vigo (140) and Sullivan (158) advanced to the regional as teams.

South Putnam (168) finished seventh overall behind Owen Valley (161) with Caroline Hodge (27:28), Joslyn Bumgardner (27:54) and Molly Trammell (32:15) all scoring for the Eagles.

Greencastle’s Meredith Ball (25:44) and Cloverdale’s Amalia Haga (25:53) both finished their high school careers at the race.
