Myers’ Market kicks off celebration of 10th year with surprise party
If the success of his business over the last 10 years hasn’t been a surprise to Mitch Myers, then at least the celebration of that decade was.
Believing he was attending a private bourbon tasting he had set up with friends, Myers instead arrived at The Whisk in downtown Greencastle on a recent Saturday evening to discover the basement venue packed with family and current and former employees of Myers’ Market.
The occasion was the 10th anniversary of the locally-sourced, locally-owned butcher shop and deli.
Not really a man for grand speeches, Myers nonetheless made his way around the party, enjoying himself in one-on-one fashion with the people most intimately tied to the success of the market.
Over the years, though, it’s become more than just the market. Outgrowths of Myers’ Market now include Myers’ 5 East Event & Catering Co. on Franklin Street in Greencastle, as well as the rebirth of the Dari-ette in Bainbridge as Myers Dari-ette. Both of these, of course, feature Myers’ Market meat.
These employees were also in attendance.
Additionally, Myers’ Market has become the supplier of meat to a number of local eateries, even as its deli competes with some of them for restaurant traffic.
While the market has served as something of a place for public celebrations, such as a fifth-anniversary event in September 2018, Myers said his plan is to celebrate this anniversary throughout the year, such as the small token currently on the front marquee of the business 302 E. Washington St. business thanking the public for 10 years of support.
On this night, though, the celebration was for family and those who’ve become like family. Seems fitting for a business that bears the Myers family name.
