Two Cougars advance from Ben Davis XC Sectional

Two North Putnam runners advanced from Saturday’s IHSAA Ben Davis Boys’ Cross Country Sectional.

Jeremiah Miles (16:37) finished in 14th place while teammates Elijah Harless (17:38) finished in 36th place for the Cougars, advancing as individuals to the IHSAA Brownsburg Regional.

North Putnam finished ninth overall in the sectional with Brownsburg beating out arch-rivals Avon 40-61 for the team title. Pike (100), Ben Davis (125) and Plainfield (154) also advanced as teams to the regional round.

Brebeuf Jesuit’s Cameron Todd won the individual sectional title in 15:49, two seconds ahead of Bulldog Ian Baker and five seconds ahead of Oriole Zachary Risner.

Thomas Nelson (18:35), Edrien Sobrino (19:07) and Corbin Conner (19:29) rounded out the scoring runners for the Cougars. Owen O’Hair (20:56) and Kaleb Walton (21:32) also competed at the sectional.

North Putnam finished 10th overall in the Ben Davis Girls’ Cross Country Sectional, paced by a 48th-place finish from Maddie Trent (22:57).

Other finishers for the Cougars included Jacy Huffman (24:15), Brooke Hensley (24:23), Erica Zatorski (28:10) and Hayden Fowley (31:32).

Advancers from the sectionals at Ben Davis, Logansport, Harrison (West Lafayette), North Central (Indianapolis) and Terre Haute North will compete at the Brownsburg Regional Saturday with the boys’ race beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the girls’ race at 11:15 a.m.
