Greencastle Summer Music Festival regulars, pianist Claude Cymerman and cellist Eric Edberg, both DePauw University emeritus music professors, will share their 35-year continuing musical friendship with a lunch hour program of favorite romantic music for cello and piano at Music on the Square in downtown Greencastle at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Marking the auspicious date with some appropriately spooky music — an arrangement of “Danse Macabre” by French romantic Camille Saint-Saëns — the informal 50-minute program of playing and chatting on M2’s Lunch Box Music series also will feature some of the long-time collaborators own transcriptions, including songs by Strauss and Korngold.

Edberg, principal cellist of the Lafayette Symphony, is the founding artistic director of the GSMF, which will celebrate its 20th season in 2024. Cymerman, a celebrated pianist with a long international career, has performed in the festival more than anyone else other than (perhaps) Edberg. DePauw and GSMF audience members have appreciated their special musical chemistry since they began performing together in 1988.

This free Lunch Box Music concert, created especially for busy business owners, employees, parents or seniors, who might not be able to catch an evening performance at the Green Center, invites the audience to bring their own brown bag lunch to M2 and enjoy it with a menu of live music over their lunch hour. An optional hot lunch, which is available for $15 on a first-come, first-served basis from The Whisk, also is free to seniors over 65.

As seating is limited at Music on the Square, reservations are recommended. Reserve a seat through the Green Center’s online box office at dpugreencenter.eventbrite.com.
