Energy Assistance Program begins for season

Thursday, November 2, 2023

The Energy Assistance Program through the Western Indiana Community Action Agency began on Nov. 1. This federally-funded program is designed to help low-income families with the high costs of home energy.

Income-eligible families are provided a one-time benefit to their heating and electric accounts to offset some of the cost of utility bills and avoid shutoffs during the winter months.

EAP is funding through the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Households that make 60 percent of the state median income or less are encouraged to apply for the program. Income guidelines and applications are available at: www.wicaa.org/energy-assistance or apply online at www.eap.ihcda.in.gov.

In Putnam County, applications may also be picked up at the Greencastle office by calling 653-4017. Located at 620 Tennessee St., the office is closed to the public, but telephone hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m.

Anyone who has received a disconnect notice or already has service disconnected is encouraged to call.

To return an application by mail, send to the Terre Haute office at Western Indiana Community Action Agency Inc., Energy Assistance Program, 705 S. 5th St., Terre Haute, IN 47807, or fax 812-242-6148.
