CLOVERDALE — No one was injured but Interstate 70 was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon following a crash involving a pair of tractor-trailors.

Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kerry Shepherd told the Banner Graphic that a semi had broken down and was sitting on the shoulder when it was struck by another semi.

The incident happened before 1 p.m.

There were no injuries, but it took several hours for responders to clear the vehicles and debris.

In the meantime, all westbound lanes of I-70 were closed in the area, leading to extra traffic on U.S. 231 and U.S. 40.

  • And on every back road as drivers randomly follow their GPS into places they don’t know and then end up honking and yelling at locals that actually need to get in and out of their own driveways.

  • It is a shame that the police agencies didn't setup a traffic control system for the traffic. Semis on back roads not designed for them. They were all over the place.

Why didn't the police when they took them off of 70 make sure they went all the way up to 40.

  • How does this even happen? A semi sitting in the shoulder is a very visible thing to see in daylight hours.

  • kbmom: I agree completely. Also when semi's plow into the back of slow-moving traffic. They tailgate and drive faster than their brakes allow them to stop. There should be more enforcement on the Interstates.
