Jackson is a senior at Greencastle and participates in three sports, football, basketball and track.

Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?

Jackson Buis: “They are very important to me and they taught me how to work hard and get through tough situations.”

BG: Talk about each of your sports.

JB: “In football, I’m a four-year starter, two-time All-WIC and two-time All-Wabash Valley award winner. In basketball, I’m getting back into in for my senior year and in track, I’m throwing again for my senior season.”

BG: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?

JB: “Getting my ankle snatched trying to cover a short PAT.”

BG: What does your game day routine look like?

JB: “My game day routine consists of getting a sandwich from Jimmy John’s, then going into the training room and taking a 30-minute nap.”

BG: Do you have any favorite college/pro sports teams or athletes you follow?

JB: “Northwestern and SVSU.”

BG: While all of the coaching changes had happened well before the season started, having to start school with the news of coach Meyers’ passing was likely hard to take for many on the team. Having been a senior and in the program for three years, how did you handle the situation and help others through it?

JB: “I handled everything well and I told our guys that our new coaches are some of the best and, since I’ve known most of them almost my entire life, we were in great hands.”

BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?

JB: “Just school work.”

BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?

JB: “Hang out with friends.”

BG: What are your favorites in movies, TV and music?

JB: “My favorite movie is ‘The Other Guys,’ TV is ‘Tom and Jerry’ and music anything by Zach Bryan.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

JB: “I would love to go to other countries and visit.”

BG: Speaking of such things, what is your biggest fear?

JB: “Snakes and spiders.”

BG: You’ve been placed in charge of making dinner. What’s on the menu?

JB: “Steak.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

JB: “I have a dog named Buddy.”

BG: If your house were on fire, all living things were already out and you have your keys, cell phone, wallet/purse etc., what is one thing you would go back and get?

JB: “My $100 bill my grandpa gave me the day he passed.”

BG: A family member has hit the lottery. After everything is paid off and money is set away for the future, you’ve been asked to buy something you have always wanted to get. What are you asking for?

JB: “A ranch in Montana.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?

JB: “It would definitely be I have a dad personality, because all of my friends say I’m a dad and act like a dad.”

BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?

JB: “Las Vegas.”

BG: What was your favorite school field trip?

JB: “The zoo.”

BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?

JB: “It’s super important and I couldn’t achieve any of things I’ve accomplished without them.”

BG: Describe your overall school experience both academically and athletically.

JB: “It’s been great. I have excelled in academics, even though it has gotten pretty hard, and athletically it’s been amazing.”

BG: If your school was to offer a class it currently doesn’t, what would you want to see taught?

JB: “An officiating class.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?

JB: “I’m going to play college football, so I would like to attend Saginaw Valley State and study accounting.”

BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your schoolwork being an athlete?

JB: “No.”

BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?

JB: “I can think of several teachers, which would include Mrs. Coons, Mr. Camacho, Mrs. Myers and coach Meyer.”

BG: After college, if you had your choice, would you want to live in the mountains, on the beach or in the neighborhood?

JB: “In a mountainous area.”

BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it? JB: “It has gone by fast and I think I’ll miss the relationships more than the school.”
