Monday, November 6, 2023

The North Putnam Thespian Society will be presenting “The Canterville Ghost” by Tim Kelly on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.

“The Canterville Ghost” has American family Horace and Lucy Otis (Jakob Seger and Shelby Merrill), their two girls Pam (Amber McVay) and Wendy (Erika Buker), along with Lucy’s sister Virginia Washington (Layla Hassar) purchasing the historic Canterville Chase from Lady Canterville (Katie Funk).

On the arrival of the family, they are greeted by Lady Canterville, the housekeeper Mrs. Umney (Madalyn Shofner), housemaid Jennie (Max Isaacs-Bailey) and the gardener Weeds (Madelyn Hurley).

Lady Canterville warns the family that the Chase is haunted by her kinsman Sir Simon De Canterville (Tucker Elmore), though the family doesn’t believe her at first and mock the idea of a ghost. Much to their surprise Sir Simon makes his presence known through many acts of the defiance.

Things get so bad that the family decides to call the aid of the local exorcist known as Madam Balakalava (Hayden Fowler). Things don’t go quite the way the family hopes and Sir Simon calls to his aid more ghosts to help in his fight — Marcia the Maniac (Jacqueline Gaddis), Hester the Horrid (Kelsa Barns), Lady Joan the Graveless (Colie Justiniano) and the Vampire Duchess (Madison Bray).

Life is hectic and fantastically funny around Canterville Chase until the real solution to the problem of the galloping ghost is discovered.

Other cast includes Vicar Dampier (Jace Flater) and his wife Mrs. Dampier (Zoey Phipps), Lord Cecil (Preston Truax), Mrs. Midwinter (Rebekah Alford) and Mrs. Musgrave (Ryan Kissel).

The play is directed by Dustin Bond, with set director Cameron Wunderlich and set design assistance by Linda Gjesvold.
