The DAR Good Citizens for Putnam County are (clockwise from top left) Sierra Kelley from Cloverdale, Charlie Menzel from Greencastle, Caroline Hodge from South Putnam and Chloee Livingston from North Putnam. The overall county Good Citizen will be named on Dec. 5.

Administrators, students and faculty from the four Putnam County high schools have again collaborated with the Washburn Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, to select one member from each senior class at his or her school in the annual Putnam County DAR Good Citizen Competition.

This year’s individual Good Citizen winners are Sierra Kelley from Cloverdale, Charlie Menzel from Greencastle, Chloee Livingston from North Putnam and Caroline Hodge from South Putnam.

Students are selected for having a variety of interests; participation in school and extracurricular activities; making contributions to their home, church and community; their scholastic achievement and awards; and exhibiting such qualities as dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Each contestant must write an essay about the responsibility of good citizenship, submit a transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation. Independent judges with no DAR affiliation review the four entries.

A ceremony will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Public Library. The individual winners will be honored and read their essays for DAR members, parents and school faculty.

The overall Putnam County Good Citizen will be announced following their presentations.
