$50,000 contribution boosts YMCA capital campaign

The YMCA of the Wabash Valley announce Thursday a boost to its capital campaign with a generous $50,000 contribution from Eric and June Wolfe.

“This investment will play a pivotal role in the opening of a state-of-the-art YMCA facility, enhancing community well-being and promoting heathy living for all residents,” YMCA of Wabash Valley CEO Ryan Penrod said. “The $50,000 contribution from Eric and June Wolfe is a testament to their commitment to fostering community health, wellness and inclusivity.”

The capital campaign, launched earlier this year, aims to raise funds for the operation and sustainability of a modern YMCA equipped with cutting-edge fitness amenities, versatile community spaces and impactful programming that address the diverse needs of our community members.

Eric Wolfe expressed enthusiasm about the partnership.

“June and I are delighted to support the YMCA’s vision for a new facility in Putnam County that will serve as a hub for fitness, recreation and community engagement,” he said. “We are making this gift to give back to the community that has given us so much, and to continue the good work in making our city the best place in Indiana to live, work and raise a family. The YMCA plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life in a community and we believe this contribution will make a lasting impact.”

The YMCA is a cornerstone of community development, providing a wide range of programs for all ages, from childcare and youth development to fitness and social responsibility initiatives. The new facility will enable the YMCA to expand its reach and impact, offering enhanced services and fostering a stronger sense of community.

Putnam County Hospital and the City of Greencastle are leading the effort for building a new YMCA, and the Putnam County Community Foundation is leading the way starting an endowment fund. The YMCA is responsible for securing funding for the operation and sustainability of the facility. With this donation, it pushes the YMCA’s fundraising total to $920,000 with a goal of raising $2 million.

The YMCA aims to raise $1 million to cover startup operating costs and $1 million for an endowment fund established with the Putnam County Community Foundation to help cover future repair and sustainability costs.

Penrod expressed gratitude for the generous donation.

“This contribution from the Wolfes brings us one step closer to realizing our vision for a modern, inclusive, and accessible YMCA facility,” Penrod said. “We are deeply thankful for their commitment to our community’s well-being and look forward to making a lasting impact together.”

The YMCA encourages community members, businesses, and organizations to join Eric and June Wolfe in supporting the capital campaign. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the YMCA closer to creating a space that will positively influence the health and vitality of Putnam County.
