Philip ‘Phil’ Taylor Carrington

Philip “Phil” Taylor Carrington, 97, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at Whitlock Place Assisted Living in Crawfordsville.

He was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Crawfordsville to the late Alva and Della (Pyle) Carrington.

On Dec. 20, 1953, he married Doris (Marsteller) Carrington. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage together. Doris survives.

Phil graduated from Russellville High School in 1944, then went on to Purdue University where he graduated in 1950.

He served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II.

Phil was a farmer. He loved farming with his brother, Paul, and later his son, Kevin, where they shared an 850-acre farm. He was a member of the Russellville Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, a lifetime member of Russellville Community Church, a Parke County REMC board member for 48 years, a Wabash Valley Power Alliance board member, serving over 38 years, and a Freemason, in which he was a member for 75-plus years.

He loved to watch sports, especially Purdue and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Carrington; daughter-in-law Deanna Carrington; nephews Keith (Becky) Carrington, Dave Carrington and Ken Carrington; sister-in-law Ruth Ann (John) Fulwider; sister-in-law Linda Marsteller; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin Carrington; brother Paul Carrington; sister-in-law Ruth Carrington; sister-in-law Charlene (Chuck) Krominaker; brother-in-law Charles Marsteller; and one nephew, Cary Fulwider.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at Russellville Community Church, 103 3rd St., Russellville, IN 46175, with Pastor Kelly Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
