County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently

Wednesday

• At 12:56 p.m. Kolby R. Williams, 25, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 12:37 p.m. John J. Capps Jr., 53, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 3:51 a.m. Ronald E. Hester, 67, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for auto theft.

Tuesday

• At 7:42 p.m. Jeremiah W. Bills, 44, Fillmore, was housed at the jail for domestic battery.

• At 9:34 a.m. Baratta O. Gray, 32, Atlanta, Ga., was booked in on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 2:57 a.m. Austin Lara, 29, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Monday

• At 11:09 a.m. Jesse R. Taylor, 38, Terre Haute, was taken into custody for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 9:42 a.m. Daniel S. Roach, 42, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 8:34 a.m. Charles P. Hoeferle, 39, Jamestown, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 4:15 a.m. Keion L. Crowder, 25, and Misty L. Casey, 29, both of Terre Haute, were arrested by Officer Damon Ludwig outside the entrance to the Walmart Supercenter on Indianapolis Road.

Both subjects were charged with invasion of privacy and lodged in the Putnam **County Jail.

Crowder was also charged with possession of marijuana, while Casey was issued a citation for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Two summonses were issued recently by city officers:

• At 8:43 p.m. Wednesday, Alexis Valls, 25, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Officer Justin Herd.

Stopped at Percy Julian Drive and Avenue E, Valls was given a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Valls was also cited for reckless driving (70 mph in a 40-mph zone).

• At 6:11 p.m. Sunday, Charles Bentley, 33, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Sgt. Nick Eastham.

Stopped on North Arlington Street, Bentley was given a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Bentley was also cited for having an expired license plate (September 2022).

One recent accident was investigated by city officers:

• At 2:01 a.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported at Bloomington and South streets as Robert Lowes, 79, Quincy, attempted to turn south onto Bloomington Street after stopping his 2022 Ford Escape at the stopsign on South Street.

Rickie Johnson, 36, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington, driving a 1996 Chevrolet flat-bed truck, when Lowes pulled out in front of him, Officer Ludwig reported.

Lowes said he didn’t immediately see the northbound vehicle and when he did it was too late to avoid a collision. Johnson said when Lowes pulled into his path he had no time to react and nowhere to go.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000. No injuries were reported.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three incidents between Monday and Thursday:

• At 12:07 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Warne Hall at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:11 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:20 p.m.

• At 1:20 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Breadworks for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived soon after and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:23 p.m.

• At 6:19 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:22 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:29 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 12 medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
