Dr. Brian Black receives highest honor from IOA
The Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA) recentley announced that Brian Black, D.O., has been awarded the J.B. Kinsinger Award, the highest honor bestowed by the IOA. This accolade is reserved for IOA members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the osteopathic profession and the broader community through their outstanding service.
Dr. Black, described as “a stalwart member” of the IOA, received the J.B. Kinsinger Award in recognition of his contributions to the field. His longstanding commitment and leadership within the IOA, coupled with his passion for preventive medicine, family medicine and hospice care, embody the ideals that the J.B. Kinsinger Award seeks to honor.
A proud alumnus of Indiana University in Bloomington, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology, Black furthered his education at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His journey in medicine continued with a family medicine residency and rural health focus at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, shaping his profound appreciation for preventive healthcare.
Black currently serves as the medical director for Elara Caring Hospice and practices full-time in family medicine alongside his father and sister in Greencastle. His commitment to excellence extends beyond patient care, as evidenced by his decade-long service to the IOA, where he served as president from 2019-2021.
In addition to his presidential tenure, Black actively contributed to the IOA’s success by chairing the nominations committee and the membership committee. He also has roles in the legislative committee and the continuing medical education committee, demonstrating a multifaceted commitment to advancing the osteopathic profession.
The J.B. Kinsinger Award not only acknowledges Black’s achievements but also serves as a testament to his dedication to the principles of osteopathic medicine.
