Greencastle middle and high school had a total of 18 band students participate in Indiana Bandasters Association Honor Band events in November.

All 18 students chose to apply and were selected to participate.

The first event was the middle school All-Region Honor Band performance at Southmont High School on Nov. 12 and 13. Ten GMS students rehearsed all day on Nov. 12 and had their concert on Nov. 13.

They performed a variety of music under the direction of Wendy Higdon Rice, the director of bands and performing arts department chair at Creekside Middle School in Carmel.

Then on Nov. 18 and 19, eight GHS band students performed at the All-District Honor Band weekend hosted at Northview High School. They performed a commission piece as well as music from many genres.

These student musicians had the privilege to be directed by H. Joyce Kim-Rohrer, a winds instructor at Washington High School who also teaches woodwind classes at Vincennes University.

“Both weekends were outstanding band experiences for all students involved,” Greencastle Band Director Annette Munoz-Thede said. “Greencastle was represented well at both events.”
