PUTNAMVILLE — The Indiana State Police Putnamville Post is welcoming a new probationary trooper.

Trooper Caleb Cannon has been assigned to the district after recently graduating with the 84th class of the Indiana State Police Academy. He will undertake a three-month field training period riding with veteran troopers.

The purpose of the field training is to put the instruction received at the academy into practical application. After successfully completing this phase, troopers are assigned a state police vehicle and go on solo patrol.

A Cory native, Cannon is a graduate of Terre Haute South High School. He attended Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute and earned an associate degree of applied science in paramedicine. He has served six years with the Cory Volunteer Fire Department and has received Fireman of the Year three times from its membership.

Putnam and Clay counties will be his primary area of service.

Cannon and his wife, Emily, reside in Clay County.
