Northview rolls to win over Greencastle on the mats
The Northview Knights wrestling squad came back from the holidays ready to roll, winning all but two matches in a 69-9 victory over Greencastle at the McAnally Center Tuesday night. Seven of the wins came by fall.
The defending Western Indiana Conference champs seemed poised to make another run at the title. They would jump out quickly to a 21-0 lead after winning 106 by forfeit, falls from Landon Souder and Kolten Starkey and a decision from Camden Erst.
The Cubs picked up wins at 132 and 138 pounds with David Olson picking up a win by fall and a 7-4 decision for Caden Blodgett. This trimmed the advantage to 21-9.
(Northview) is really solid. We got in some bad positions and they took advantage with some big moves. We are a little banged up; hopefully we can get healthy and I would like to make a run at conference. Its never too late, said Greencastle coach Kyle Shaffer.
The Knights then really got rolling, taking the final eight matches, three by forfeit as Greencastle is battling some injuries and the other five by fall. Draven Elmore, Payton Gorrell, Tommy Gilliam, Jayden Whitesell and Jace Dealers all picked up victories.
We start talking about peaking this time of year. Greencastle is always a tough opponent, so it was really nice to come here and get a nice team win. Big wins like this will help out guys confidence before we get to the conference, Knights coach Tonay Sanabria said.
The WIC conference meet is scheduled for Jan. 13 at Edgewood.
