Bearded Painter to host Isaiah 117 House fundraiser this weekend

While supporting Putnam County Isaiah 117 House, painters attending a pair of fundraisers this weekend hosted by The Bearded Painter will also receive instruction on painting their very own beach sunset scene.

Anyone wanting to learn to paint and support local kids in need will have two chances this weekend — Friday evening, Jan. 12 and Sunday afternoon, Jan. 14.

The Bearded Painter will host a fundraiser for Isaiah 117 house with classes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $60 for the classes, which usually last between two and three hours.

The event will take place at The Bearded Painter gallery at 15 W. Franklin St., Greencastle. For both seasoned artists and beginners, these classes offer a unique opportunity to explore one's creative side. The Bearded Painter, Rick Johnston, will guide attendees through various techniques and help create their very own masterpiece.

Isaiah 117 House is a nonprofit organization that provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting foster care placement. Currently, when a child is removed in a county without an Isaiah 117 House, the child must wait in the child welfare services office. The child is often dirty, hungry, tired, scared and unable to bring any personal possessions. Isaiah 117 House allows for that same child to never go to an office, but rather a home with loving volunteers to care for them.

The Putnam County effort has moved forward considerably since it kicked off in August 2022, with land donated for the house in Greencastle and local contractors ready to move forward with the build this spring.

Once complete, the local Isaiah 117 House will serve children not only from Putnam County, but also Morgan, Owen, Clay and Parke counties.
