NEW MAYSVILLE — A family is safe after their home near New Maysville was destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning.

The Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department was toned at about 3:25 a.m. for a structure fire at 9892 N. CR 825 East. As power lines were being checked, Hendricks Power called into dispatch that the home was on the ground with flames showing.

With the same showing on Roachdale Fire’s arrival, tankers were requested from the Bainbridge and Floyd Township volunteer fire departments. After knocking down the flames, firefighters conducted extensive overhaul.

While they were able to extinguish the hot spots, freezing was an issue with the apparatuses due to the sub-zero temperatures and high winds that moved into the area.

Putnam County CERT responded to the incident as well as the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Meanwhile, Casey’s provided breakfast to personnel.

Apparatuses were back in service by 8:05 a.m. No injuries to the firefighters or others were reported.

It was initially feared that the home was occupied at the time of the fire. However, a neighbor and Roachdale Fire Chief Mike Poole made contact with the family, which was staying in a motel.

Poole told the Banner Graphic that the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office would investigate the scene at a later time. As such, no specific cause for the fire was determined.

According to Putnam County GIS, the home was listed to Carrie Beasley.

  • That's so horrible at a time like this with weather so cold. I hope the family is safe.
