Cougars top county field with third-place finish at WIC wrestling meet

ELLETTSVILLE — North Putnam topped Edgewood for third place at the Western Indiana Conference wrestling meet Saturday, finishing with 157 at the conclusion of the meet to jump the Mustangs after trailing the hosts most of the morning and afternoon.

The Cougars were the highest-finishing team among the Putnam County schools with South Putnam finishing fifth on 137.5 points, Greencastle seventh on 99 points and Cloverdale 11th on 39 points

Owen Valley won the team title on 196.5 points with Northview second on 165 points. Edgewood finished fourth on 151.5 points, Indian Creek finished sixth on 107 points, Brown County finished eighth on 73 points while Sullivan pipped West Vigo for ninth place by a point at 54-53.

North Putnam and South Putnam had two individual winners on the day each while Greencastle added a fifth individual title for the Putnam County quartet.

Cougars Bryce Glaze and Wes Murphy won titles at 126 and 132 pounds respectively while Tiger Cub Cayden Blodgett made it three wins in a row for the county by claiming a title at 138 pounds. Eagles Aiden Beadles and Keenan Mowery-Shields closed the event by winning titles at 215 and 285 pounds respectively.

Four others wrestled for conference titles, as Cloverdale’s Jason Glosser (106), Greencastle’s Elijah Frank (113) and David Olson (132) and South Putnam’s Robert Speth (175) finished as runners-up on the day.

North Putnam had placement finishes from 11 of its 12 wrestlers on the day as Kali Boller (113), Quenton Brown (144), William Smith (150) and Braden Glaze (175) finished in third place, Tilmon Brown (190) finished in fourth place, Josh Taylor (157) and Hank Wood (215) finished in fifth place and Kaleb Walton (138) and Caiden Hankins (165) finished in sixth place.

Dylan Gilley (190) finished third for South Putnam while Isaac Boyd (120) and Gabe Thomas (138) finished in fourth place, Noah Redman (106) and Joseph Pulzone (150) finished in fifth place and Tyler Coke (144) finished in sixth place.

Cyrus Gurnon (126) finished in fourth place for the Tiger Cubs while Dylan Archer (120) finished in fifth place and Anthony Peters (106), Orion Bowser (150) and Grayson Linnweber (285) finished in sixth place.

Cloverdale’s Landon Shaw (113) finished fourth and Max Bryant (126) finished sixth.
