Robert Stanley Perkins

Robert Stanley Perkins, 92, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 13, 1931 in Parke County, the son of William Oscar and Jessie Hazel (Wood) Perkins, and was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Robert served nine years in the National Guard, enlisting when he was 17.

He retired from IBM in 1987 after 29-and-a-half years, working as a plant manager and press operator. He also worked as a carpenter during this time. He previously worked for the Omar Baking Company with a route in Terre Haute and the Coca-Cola Company, Greencastle.

He was a member of the International Woodworkers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin Perkins and brother Woody Porter.

Robert is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Nelson) Perkins; children Steve (Joni) Perkins, Cindy Perkins, Roger Perkins, Rebecca (Brian) Hoffeditz, Jeffrey Perkins, Barbara (Mike) Samsel and Glenda (Kerry) Couts; brother Bill Perkins; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
