The DePauw Tigers had no problem holding onto first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball standings, cruising to a 79-29 victory over the Kenyon Owls Wednesday night.

DePauw’s offense took a while to get cooking, but its defense was stifling from the get-go.

The Tigers went out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter, paced by a pair of three-pointers from Ava Hassel and Lily Huntzinger.

The second quarter belonged to guard Riley Mont, who scored the Tigers’ first 14 points of the quarter as they stretched out to a 27-11 lead after the spurt.

Olivia Hart added a basket and Ainsley Boras drained a three to make it 32-15 at halftime.

Mont came out of halftime with two quick baskets and the flood gates opened as the hosts seemingly scored at will while the defense kept the Owls on lockdown.

Former Bishop Chartard star Moira McGinley scored seven points in the quarter as the Tigers outscored Kenyon 22-11 in the period.

DePauw then went deep into its bench, but that did not stop the home side from scoring.

The bench scored 49 points in the contest as 14 different Tigers got into the scoring column.

The Owls would score three points in the fourth, all from the charity stripe as DePauw went on to the impressive 50-point victory.

The win allows the Tigers to keep a slim lead in the race for the conference title. DePauw’s next matchup is at home against Hiram with a showdown against another contender, the always tough Wittenberg, the following week.

DePauw is now 14-5 overall and 7-1 in conference action.
