John Charles Swisher

John Charles Swisher, of Coatesville, formerly of Brownsburg, entered into his eternal rest Jan. 27, 2024. The following is an obituary written by his loving family.

John was born on March 23, 1936 in Guilford Township Hendricks County to Ira N. and Lucille M. Swisher.

The family moved to Brownsburg in 1946. He was a 1954 graduate of Brownsburg High School.

On March 30, 1959, he married the love of his life, Norma K Sering.

John worked many years for the Town of Brownsburg. He owned and operated Swisher Plumbing Inc. from 1968 until 2023. He was a volunteer fireman for Brownsburg and a member of the Jaycees. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Greencastle and an active member of the Whitestone Christian Church, New Winchester.

John was an avid gardener and fisherman. Through his love of woodworking, he created many family heirlooms. He also created toys for the children at Christmas for Riley Children’s Hospital.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, and son Donald Allen Swisher.

He is survived by daughter-in-law Sherry Allene Swisher of Cross Hill, S.C.; daughter Diana Kay (Steven) Stuckey of Bainbridge, Ohio; son Charles Aaron (Linda) Swisher of Rockville; daughter Mary Margaret (James) Moran of St. Joseph, Mich., 17 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with the service beginning at 1 p.m. John will be laid to rest following the service in Lincoln Memory Gardens Cemetery in Whitestown.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitestone Christian Church or other charity of donor’s choice in John’s memory.
