Emily Beth Ulrich, 48, of West Lafayette, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2024 from a six-month illness.

She was born Jan. 11, 1976 in Coatesville to Gary W. and Shari K. Stuart Hunteman.

Emily graduated from South Putnam High School in 1994 then went on to DePauw University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in 1998. In 2011 she completed her master’s in library and information science. She was always seeking to learn and most recently studied Mandarin for four years at Purdue University.

Emily moved to Lafayette in 1998, where she was employed at Purdue through 2024. She was a very talented and dedicated employee. A few years ago she obtained the title of senior research analyst, of which she was very proud.

Through the years she had devoted her time to many activities. She volunteered at the West Lafayette Public Library for one. She served on the board for six years for the Lafayette Master Chorale and also served a time as secretary, plus participated in performances. Another board she served on was APRA, the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, for Indiana.

Emily met the love of her life, Michael Ulrich, in 2008, and they dated and then married on June 30, 2012. The faithfulness and care he showed Emily was exemplary, and they were devoted to each other.

Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Ulrich; her parents; brother John P. Hunteman of Brazil; plus several nieces and nephews.

Emily was preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Ellen Grimes, who died in 2004 at age 32.

A celebration of Emily’s life is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1526 S. 18th St., Lafayette, with Pastor T.J. Jenney officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.
