Neil Eugene Green, 88, of Bainbridge, patriarch of the Green family, passed away on Jan. 31, 2024 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1935 at his home which sat at the bottom of Raccoon Lake. He was one of 15 children of the late Lola Taylor Green and William Herman Green.

He met the late Leora “Odie” May Symmonds Green, the love of his life, at The Pole in Indianapolis in 1958, and they married at Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Indianapolis on Aug. 22, 1959. They moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for their honeymoon home after their marriage, where they lived for a few months before returning home to Indiana in 1960.

Neil graduated with the class of 1954 from Bainbridge High School.

He began working as a bricklayer for his father after returning from the Army, where he was a private from 1956-58. He was a second-generation bricklayer for 40-plus years. He eventually owned and operated his own business, Du-Wall Construction, beginning in 1977, to which he eventually retired from. Du-Wall proudly provided masonry services to The Indianapolis Zoo, the United Airlines hub, Eli Lilly and the Marion County Jail. He passed down his artful skill of brick laying to his two sons and grandsons.

He was a well-loved member of Gospel Assembly Church on Bluff Road in Indianapolis for nearly 50 years.

His hobbies included mushroom hunting, political debate, watching nature (especially trees and birds), keeping up on high school and college basketball and football, leading and participating in family Bible studies, but most passionately studying the word of the Lord and quenching his thirst for biblical knowledge. He was a wonderful example of a God-fearing, hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three remaining sisters, Norma Martin, Cathy Blau and Barbara Ross; his children, Heidi Green-Lynn of Danville, Keith (Vanessa) Green of Bainbridge, Angela (Vladimir) Green of Indianapolis, Kevin (Darcie) Green of Bainbridge, Mechele (Ken) Adam of Ladoga and Morgan (Micah) Harshaw of Indianapolis; and grandchildren Rachel Lynn, Anna Lynn, Lauren (Chris) Springstun, Zach (Megan) Green, Madison Drew Rogers, Beau (Megan) Green and Aaron Green.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora Green; his parents; siblings Carl Green, Lois Brown, Ruth Pond, Leon Green, Wilma Cooper, Russell Green, Lesly Green, Herbert “Sock” Green, Richard Green, Colleen Fly and Sue Detro; and granddaughter Hannah Green.
