Jessie Furnish

A Greencastle woman was arrested recently for allegedly forging a large check at a Putnam County bank, as well as for other alleged crimes.

The Indiana State Police initiated an investigation in October 2023, after it received information that an individual attempted to cash a fraudulent $25,000 check for self-gain at the bank in question.

After the investigation was completed, the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant for the arrest of Jessie Furnish, 32. She was taken into custody by Putnamville ISP Post troopers on Tuesday and transported to the Putnam County Jail.

Furnish has been charged with Level 6 felony forgery, as well as two Level 6 felony counts of theft for property valued between $750-$50,000.

Furnish was also served other in-county warrants. These include Level 6 felony official misconduct and Level 6 felony possession of a controlled substance, as well as Level 5 felony trafficking a controlled substance with an inmate and Level 3 felony possession of a narcotic drug.

Furnish is being held at the jail without bond.

The investigating officer was Trooper Detective Colton Maynor. He was assisted by troopers Kyle Hall and James Crisp and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

  • There seems to be an organized effort of some sort re: stealing/forging checks lately. I’ve seen a lot of people charged with it recently, and many of them after lengthy investigations.

  • I guess we can skip the trial. The people have spoken.
