FINCASTLE — Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes for U.S. 231 between U.S. 36 and State Road 236 on Friday. This is as crews dealt with a downed power line across the road in Fincastle.

All lanes were blocked, with both the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and Indiana Department of Transportation warning drivers via social media to avoid the area while they worked the incident and reset the pole.

INDOT Traffic Wise, the state traffic management center, estimated as of 1:15 p.m. the possibility of a six-hour closure. However, the road was reopened at about 2:40 p.m.

The cause of the incident was noted, but in a photo posted by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, snow can be seen on the road and a vehicle sitting near the downed pole.

Snow continued to fall across Putnam County as of 2 p.m., with apparently heavier accumulation in the northern part of the county.
