CLOVERDALE - The Cloverdale Clovers boys’ basketball team had the daunting task of taking on the 17-4 Sullivan Golden Arrows in their regular season finale Tuesday night.

The Arrows were everything their record said they were, handing the Clovers an 86-36 loss to close the regular season.

In a make-up game from last Friday’s inclement weather, Sullivan took control of the game early. The Arrows started on a 17-2 run, Trey Schabel getting the only Cloverdale early score. Houston Jobe then hit a late three to make 17-5 after one.

Sullivan was a team that was deep, strong and was not going to beat itself, committing only three turnovers on the night.

The visitors exploded for 25 points in the second quarter; not only did they dominate the scoring, the Clovers did not get second chances as the Arrows controlled the glass.

Levi Johnson had a three and five points in the quarter for Cloverdale. The Clovers also hit 7-of-11 shots in the period; the problem was Sullivan hit 9-of-18, including three triples, and had a commanding 42-20 lead at the break.

Things didn’t get any better in the third as the Arrows put the game away. They were an efficient 9-of-13 from the field in the penultimate quarter. Zach Thomas, Tre Henderson and an Eli Kelley three was the scoring for the Clovers in the period.

Sullivan’s bench was not too shabby either as the scoring continued. Johnson picked up four more points and Kelley had another three ball, but Sullivan dominated every statistical category, looking like a team that could do some damage in the postseason.

Four Arrows finished in double figures in a balanced attack. The visitors had 11 different players score, 10 of which had at least six points. Sullivan also shot 57 percent from the field and out rebounded the Clovers 32-14.

Kelley finished with 14 on the night for the Clovers. Johnson added nine and Jobe added five. Kelley was also the leading rebounder with three.

Cloverdale now gets ready for sectional play next Tuesday at the Greencastle sectional as they face county rival North Putnam. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
