INDIANAPOLIS — Congressman André Carson (IN-7th) has announced the appointment of Greencastle native Megan Sims as chief of staff for his Washington, D.C., and Indianapolis offices.

Sims previously served as district director and deputy chief of staff for Carson’s offices, where she directed all office and legislative operations, served as a liaison to the community and worked to implement policy priorities.

A 2002 graduate of Greencastle High School, she is the daughter of Veannn and Dale Sims. The 40-year-old Sims is a 2006 graduate of Indiana University-Indianapolis.

Throughout her tenure, Sims has worked to help Carson bring millions of dollars in federal grant and community project funding to Indianapolis organizations and led the local implementation of transformational legislation, including pandemic relief funds through the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act, historic infrastructure investments through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the expansion of veteran benefits through the PACT Act.

“Megan’s drive, leadership and strong connections to the Indianapolis community, combined with her vast legislative knowledge, will be an incredible asset to my office and the entire 7th Congressional District,” Carson stated. “A true public servant, Megan will lead our office as we navigate one of the most contentious periods in American political history.

“Although Congress has recently become mired in gridlock, extremism and partisan tension, my priorities remain the same: Making life better for everyday, hard-working Hoosiers,” Carson added. “I can’t think of a better leader to help achieve these goals.”

Sims assumes the position of chief of staff after Kim Rudolph served 13 years in the role and 27 years total with the House of Representatives.

“Kim was an incredible chief of staff and remains a trusted mentor, coach, educator and leader,” Carson said. “She comes from a legacy of great American pioneers, and her tutelage ensures we will not miss a step in this transition. I remain grateful for her years of service to our city, state and country.”

Sims also serves on the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership board, which aims to increase affordable housing for Indianapolis residents. Prior to joining Carson’s offices, she served in various levels of government and politics.

  • Megan is a super person.

I have been in his office lobbying for my industry in DC. Though we have different perspectives, I was amazed at how open minded he was and also the genuine insights he provided back that were needs for his community. A couple of those needs are, sadly, still needs.

Provided great understanding on both sides and allowed movement forward. Eventually, there was support for our ask that met his needs to keep consumers informed and our need for wrong information not being propagated as truth.

    A win win!!!!
