FILLMORE — Multiple crews were called out Sunday for a house fire in Fillmore.

The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department requested a box alarm at about 5:25 p.m. for a structure fire at 5801 E. CR 150 North. The initial responders arrived as flames were through the roof.

With fire spreading through, firefighters from the Greencastle Fire Department and the Floyd Township, Coatesville and Amo volunteer departments responded. Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.

Entry was first made through the back door where a garage was to push the fire to the front. Personnel backed out as the roof over the kitchen area bowed in, but they went back in for their interior attack.

“For the head start that it had, they did a heck of a job on the knockdown,” Fillmore Fire Chief Mike Davies commented.

With a hydrant about a mile away, tankers shuttled water with a relay operation on the fireground. While water was not an issue, the wind made it a challenge to control the fire.

While Duke Energy arrived to make sure of the utilities, firefighters shut off the meter while a pole was disconnected.

The fire was relayed as mostly extinguished by 6 p.m., though it was located in the crawl space and the wall on the east side. It was tapped as completely out by 6:30 p.m., after which extensive overhaul was conducted.

While people were at the home at the time, no injuries to them or personnel were reported.

Davies said that a firm cause for the fire was not identified. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate the scene.

“Everybody worked good together and done a heck of a job for as many firefighters and trucks as we had here,” Davies summed up.

According to Putnam County GIS, the home is listed to Charles and Kathy Erwin.
