UPDATE: As of late morning, the Duke Energy outage map no longer showed any problems in Greencastle.

Gibboney informed the Banner Graphic that school was scheduled to resume at Deere Meadow on Thursday, with a communication set to go out to parents Wednesday afternoon.

A power outage has forced the closure of Deer Meadow Primary School on Wednesday.

Supt. Jeff Gibboney notified Deer Meadow parents shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday in an email that was also shared with the Banner Graphic.

“We regret to inform you that Deer Meadow Primary school will be closed today due to a sudden power outage,” Gibboney wrote. “As a result, we are unable to ensure the safety and comfort of our students and staff.”

All other GCSC schools remain open Wednesday.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” Gibboney continued. “We will keep you updated on any developments regarding the reopening of the school.”

According to Duke Energy outage information, just one Greencastle customer – apparently the school – was shown as having an outage as of 7:20 a.m.

School officials requested that parents keep their children home or in another safe environment until further notice. Students who ride the bus who had already been picked up prior to the closure will be kept at McAnally Center, where the district bus transfer lot is located. These students will need to be picked up at McAnally beginning after 8:15 a.m.

Students normally dropped off by a parent or guardian at Deer Meadow will not be taken.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Gibboney wrote. “Thank you for your cooperation.”
