Nancy Ann (Richards) Clifford

Nancy Ann (Richards) Clifford, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Hendricks Regional Health, Danville.

Nancy was born on Oct. 20, 1938 in Greencastle to the late John R. Richards and Amy C. (Zeiner) Richards.

Nancy graduated from Greencastle High School in 1957, and attended Comptometer Business Training School in Indianapolis. This led to office employment in the Indiana state office building in Indianapolis. She also worked for several years in county offices in the Putnam County Courthouse.

Nancy met and married Jimmie Gene Clifford on April 28, 1961. They were married 57 years until his passing on Jan. 7, 2019.

Nancy was an active member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution–Washburn Chapter), Bainbridge Christian Church and the Bainbridge Community Service Club. Genealogy was a lifelong hobby and commitment. Nancy had an abundance of details on hundreds of families. She completed a history for “Sylvester Perry and Descendants 1773–1975.” She also compiled data on the Clifford family history.

Nancy and Jim traveled to the Seattle World’s Fair in 1961, and other sites along the way. They enjoyed other trips to visit relatives and explore history. Chicago Cubs and Reds baseball games, plus high school sports, were a highlight in person and on the radio and television.

Nancy’s survivors include son David B. Clifford and daughter-in-law Melanie Clifford of Greenwood; granddaughter Marissa Bustin (Joel) of Camp Liberty, S.C.; and grandson Joshua Layton Clifford of Greenwood. Additional survivors are two sisters, one brother, three first cousins and several nieces and nephews.

She spent April 6 with family and friends at a memorial celebration for sister-in-law Rebecca Ann Richards (Steve).

Daughter Beth Ann Clifford Funk, age 55, passed away Aug. 15, 2022 in Goodyear, Ariz., from leukemia. She was born May 6, 1967 in Indianapolis. She was the daughter of Jimmie Gene and Nancy Ann (Richards) Clifford. She graduated from South Putnam High School in 1985.

Services for both Nancy and Beth Ann will take place Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle, IN 46135. Interment will follow the service in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery, Reelsville, IN 46171. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
