St. Andrew’s to host fundraiser dinner for Summer Enrichment

Monday, April 15, 2024

For nearly 40 years, the Greenastle community has played host to the Summer Enrichment Program, which is sponsored by St. Andrew’s Episcopal and Gobin churches.

This Friday, April 19, St. Andrew’s will host a fundraising dinner for SEP, and is asking for a $20 contribution for the dinner. However, larger donations are accepted, even for those who cannot attend.

SEP began in 1988. It was created by Kelsey Kaufman not to be a summer school, but to help families give their children opportunities to learn to swim, go to museums, visit local farms, make a miniature tornado while learning science, to love books and to eat at least two healthy meals a day, because many of these children would not have enough food at home.

SEP is a five-week program that is free to parents who enroll their children.

Plans are already under way for the summer 2024 program, which kicks off May 28. Organizers hope to provide positive and engaging enrichment activities for 60 students, and ask for community support. With these contributions, children will receive weekend food packages and receive swimming lessons, as well as participate in many fun activities.

Contributions can make a difference:

• $20 pays the cost of one weekend food package for one child.

• $40 pays the cost of swim lessons for one child.

• $120 pays the cost of a child for one week in the program.

• $600 provides a scholarship for one child for the entire program.

• $1,200 covers weekend food packages for all children.

• $2,500 covers the cost of swim lessons at the Greencastle Aquatic Center for all children.

Organizers are also hoping to find corporate sponsors to help with some of the larger needs.

All are invited for a lasagna dinner on Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at St. Andrew’s, 520 E. Seminary St., Greencastle.
