Adventurin'
The beginning of my third week at the Banner Graphic proved eventful -- very eventful, indeed.
While I continue to get settled at my new job and form a network of contacts (alliances), the good folks who are familiar with the territory have been showing me around so I can become better acquainted with my surroundings.
One such good "folk" has been my boss -- Assistant Editor Jared Jernagen.
Jared thought it would be a good idea to show me around the area I'll be covering in the coming weeks and months ahead, which was a fantastic idea because I genuinely need to know the lay of the land.
Did we succeed that day? I'll let you be the judge.
Our trip to Bainbridge was cut short (after exiting Shortcut Road) Monday morning, as rain seemed to be pouring from the clear blue sky.
Well, we discovered it wasn't exactly rain, but anti-freeze.
Initially shrugging it off (we had no clue where the moisture had come from), Jared and I continued on to our destination, thinking all was well with the world.
It was just at that moment when we were turning onto Highway 36 that we realized smoke was billowing out from under the hood of his truck.
Something was wrong.
We stopped the vehicle, got out and discovered the problem. Anti-freeze had somehow come out of its intended area of the engine and was splattering down the front of the truck's grill.
After a few calls, some discussion and the occasional good-willed passerby, Jared, the truck and I were picked up by Jerry Butts of Jerry's Wrecker Service.
An excellent conversationalist, Jerry and we poor saps (including the truck) had a nice ride back to Greencastle to drop off the vehicle.
Needless to say, the morning didn't go as expected. However, I believe it's in these situations -- the unexpected, nearly impossible situations -- that give us our most real and true experiences.
Included in this blog are some photographs of the happening, as well as of the surrounding area.
I look forward to having many of these adventures, but hopefully it won't "rain" again.
